From club bangers, to hood anthems, Moneybagg is on his A Game. But lately, his realness is under attack and fans fear the same may be for his life after his past betrayal of his old gang is seemingly exposed. It caught everyone off guard with everything that’s come to light, but just what the hell is suddenly going on around bro’s life? Well, we’re going to chop it up and break it down and see who from his past is back to haunt him and if he needs to get more protection from the target on his back.
Before he became Moneybagg Yo, the blood cousin of Three 6 Mafia’s Crunchy Black https://youtu.be/Mz6xeJaQaOQ (2:13-2:28) was DeMario DeWayne White Jr from South Memphis, Tennessee trying to make ends meet with his single parent mother and two other siblings. Having to struggle every day to make it, he was tempted to go the route of the street life from a young age https://youtu.be/nfvnbQOSgac (0:25-0:36) Moneybagg would change his focus to sports like Basketball and Football to try stay on the right path https://youtu.be/OTFUvzu6B0g (2:22-2:43) Unfortunately seeing his mother struggle, and having to sleep in an apartment with no furniture pulled him closer and closer away from school https://youtu.be/W_-aIx4RB4Q (0:44-0:58) When sports failed to keep him focused, he at one point while trying to make it out, got a job at Churches Chicken but lasted only 2 days before quitting https://youtu.be/QopmhOUePl4 (1:34-1:57) His moms would try her best to keep him from the streets by placing strict rules for him to follow but that only helped push the young hungry Moneybagg out the door https://youtu.be/nfvnbQOSgac (0:52-1:00) This led to him leaving home often to stay with a homie and being in the streets https://youtu.be/nfvnbQOSgac (0:37-0:49).
At around the age of 14 Moneybagg would begin venturing further from school as women and the streets enticed him the more he got involved with that lifestyle https://youtu.be/nfvnbQOSgac (1:14-1:28) By the age of 15 he had already jumped off the porch and soon after dropped out of school all together https://youtu.be/nfvnbQOSgac (1:04-1:12) Even if he didn’t complete the 12th Grade, he had the smarts to grind, hustle and get it out the mud https://youtu.be/QopmhOUePl4 (0:20-0:47) The block on Haravan became a frequent spot where he got into drugs, violence, and even nearly lost his life https://youtu.be/Szp_54M0PYc (5:37-6:05)
In that clip he mentioned a specific name that plays a big role in the alleged attempt on his life where one woman was left with two bullets and had to be hospitalized. We’ll come back to that later on.
Now money bag was all but a hood dude at this moment doing what he had to, to blow. But as fate would have it, something worked its way into his mind. Moneybagg had a love for hip hop music and listened to hood legends like Boosie, Yo Gotti, Juvenile, and Future https://youtu.be/FpbsZFs8YlQ (6:44-6:50) so it only made sense that being in a room of homies rapping and getting money, he would have the idea of why not doing that himself https://youtu.be/nfvnbQOSgac (1:39-2:10) It would start as just a way to make it out the struggle, but overtime, he realized he had a passion for it and that’s when Moneybagg Yo became Moneybagg Yo. But when something seems too good to be true, it most times is. At one of his family annual picnics on August 8th, his street life spilled into his personal life and he was shot at. Luckily he made it out unharmed but was arrested for the altercation https://youtu.be/QopmhOUePl4 (2:02-2:19)
Back out and able to focus on his music, Moneybagg Yo released his first official offering to the streets in February 2011 with the song “F U Pay Me” https://youtu.be/IxkIVcnJH00 and it actually had a vibe. He would follow up with the hood banger “Fast Money” https://youtu.be/6cJDKMOZ66c During that time things were still hard, but he had the motivation of his homie Elo who always pushed him to keep going. Fighting through he released his first mixtape in 2012 called “From The Block To The Booth”
The pressure was on to make it, Moneybagg Yo would go into savage mode, turning into the mixtape king of Memphis with releases like 2014’s “La Familia” with his late homie Slpy who also played a big role in his come up.
2015 saw the “Relentless” release
Whatever cash Moneybagg made from the streets, instead of splurging or gambling it away like some of his peers, he would spend down to his last investing in studio time and other things to push and improve his music quality https://youtu.be/Waj8eEkPxvI (19:38-19:57)
Then 2016 came with the mixtape that really made some noise in the streets, “Federal” which represented the rappers breaking point where he stopped caring and let everything he was holding in, out https://youtu.be/jJR5AUPwb3k The tape was released under his very own Bread Gang label which he owned. The name of his movement came about after hearing it within bars of a Yo Gotti song https://youtu.be/rs31TH6l78w (6:40-7:31)
By this point in his career his buzz was getting around and the financial gain began flowing in from show gigs. After he got his first $2500, Moneybagg was locked in with a greater dedication and grind to take off https://youtu.be/nfvnbQOSgac (3:22-4:00) https://youtu.be/eOcBa5RqSEM (7:30-8:00) Moneybagg Yo would however soon find out that juggling illegal and legal careers don’t go together. While having a release party for his CD on March 13th 2016 at the former Maserati Club on Highway 70 in Mason, Tennessee, cops would storm the club, confiscated 10 loaded guns, a bullet proof vest, cash and drugs. Moneybagg Yo along with 28 other persons who authorities label as gang members affiliated to the Vice Lords, Gangster Disciples, Bloods and Crips were arrested on drug and gun charges.
Sadly, after bonding out, his problems kept piling on. Tragedy soon again struck the rising star when his day one homie Elo losing his life to gun violence between 2015 and 2016. This hit Moneybagg like a ton of bricks losing both his day ones that supported him https://youtu.be/OTFUvzu6B0g (3:11-3:47) He would honor his fallen homie by tatting his name beside his eye https://youtu.be/nfvnbQOSgac (5:20-5:25) and later that year he would release a tape in his honor of his name and life, ELO (Everybody Lives On) https://youtu.be/hrCja0EmY28 (0:28-0:37)
Moneybagg was using the grief over his loss to elevate higher to his dreams for both them, himself and his family https://youtu.be/OTFUvzu6B0g (4:03-4:24)
His tribute work to those dear to him that past on brought a blessing in disguise. He would sign a deal under N-Less Entertainment https://www.nlessentertainment.com/moneybagg-yo
and with the release of his mixtape “All Gas No Brakes” it was like everything was falling into place. It would catch the attention of CMG (Collective Music Group) Label Boss Yo Gotti and the rest became history.
Yo Gotti would try to sign the rapper twice, but by the third time they were already known through the streets and built up a solid trust and Moneybagg signed on the dotted line https://youtu.be/434CQm0XLxY (5:18-6:10) https://youtu.be/nfvnbQOSgac (7:07-7:17) Yo Gotti blessed him with a 200K bag up front https://youtu.be/T168THO78KI (1:00-1:40) Moneybagg Yo was finally up and about to level up his career. Just when things seemed like they were too tough, pockets low, sleeping on cold floors, he kept the faith, put in the work and his break finally came https://youtu.be/eOcBa5RqSEM (0:55-1:25) https://youtu.be/W_-aIx4RB4Q (0:14-0:37) https://youtu.be/Waj8eEkPxvI (59:55-1:00:50)
Moneybagg Yo got to celebrating the new found success, enjoying the new cash flow with buying a white tiger https://youtu.be/Waj8eEkPxvI (38:49-39:05)
He was now stepping into the upper echelon of rappers. But, the streets always collect what’s owed. The money was good but the path to get it broke the politics of the hood where he grew up. This is where things began going horribly wrong for Moneybagg even with his growing popularity. Follow closely. Moneybagg is from South Memphis. Yo Gotti is from North of Memphis. Street wise, the two sides don’t get along and are beefing. Once Moneybagg made that move to sign under CMG, it was instant hate and beef that came his way https://youtu.be/X_GPaYdqWTI (27:54-28:07) https://youtu.be/rs31TH6l78w (4:05-4:39)
Suddenly he was getting into beefs with dudes that he never met before and even people he dropped a tape with. In 2017, he would drop a joint mixtape with one of raps biggest artist NBA YoungBoy called “Fed Baby’s”
One moment they’re reveling in the tape’s success, the next, YB was uploading vids dissing Moneybagg and not supporting the tape https://youtu.be/6YXF3tEQBSI Moneybagg kept his cool and didn’t fan the flames and eventually the two seemed to have cleared the air behind closed doors https://youtu.be/l5KMfZJPaXc (0:00-0:14) https://youtu.be/6DvkBNEzROo (1:55-2:08) But where YB left off, 1017 Label artist Ralo picked up,
dissing Moneybagg along with Yo Gotti and labelmate Blac Youngsta who Moneybagg has a tape “Code Red” with https://youtu.be/2SkTcsZcXcU (2:36-2:40)
Moneybagg would break down where the issue seemed to stem from in an interview on The Breakfast Club, but Ralo claims that wasn’t the case and Moneybagg misinterpreted the situation and he only wanted his help in connecting him to Blac Youngsta and Gotti to squash their beef https://youtu.be/ThYEtxCDqfY (7:13-9:32) https://youtu.be/2SkTcsZcXcU (5:10-6:27) https://youtu.be/DqYwomEsVjc (1:05-1:50)
Moneybagg was trying to stay clear of the drama, keeping it moving even with the bad energy surrounding his new fame. He would keep his distance from Memphis outside of taking care of family https://youtu.be/FpbsZFs8YlQ (9:22-9:44) Rightfully so as he was now basically an A-List rapper getting 200K a show https://www.complex.com/music/moneybagg-yo-claims-his-show-fee-has-increased#:~:text=After%20revealing%20that%20his%20starting,continuing%20to%20increase%20his%20fee.&text=Locked%20In%20My%20First%20200k,%F0%9F%8F%BE%20It’s%20Stuck%20There%20!!&text=%E2%80%9CI%20think%20I%20can%20get,thousand),%E2%80%9D%20he%20continued.&text=’%E2%80%9D%20Moneybagg%20Yo%20said.
But little did Moneybagg know, what was coming next would open up a hole to his past. In 2020, a clip of a recording from a prison inmate surfaced online accusing Moneybagg Yo of selling out https://youtu.be/vxHMtKSuCXM (1:48-2:24) Turns out this dude used to be Moneybagg’s day one, not to mention a member of a group we came to find out was named Young Mob. He’s known as “Stupid Duke” so you know off the rip bro must be some type of Memphis savage with the coonery. Receipts even popped up confirming moneybagg was with the crew
Up to this point, no one outside of the streets really knew that about Moneybagg, well the majority of fans either way. And the things that came to light was crazy. Duke said Moneybagg was working with the opps. Alright, we’ve got to back track a bit here. In this clip from a Vlad interview, Moneybagg was saying that dudes are hating for nothing cause no one never even got murked so it shouldn’t be an issue with him signing to CMG and getting a bag https://youtu.be/rs31TH6l78w (4:31-4:45). While this is true, someone did get shot though, which adds credibility to Stupid Duke’s claims. Let’s go back even further to around 2010 where everything really connects. During thanksgiving weekend that year, in the parking lot outside Level II nightclub, there was an altercation that left 6 people shot. Guess who were the people in the altercation? None other than Yo Gotti and someone by the name of Lance Taylor. Remember that name I told you to keep in memory earlier that Moneybagg Yo said he grew up in the hood with, Yep, same guy, OG Boo Dirty. He’s also Stupid Dukes blood brother https://youtu.be/vxHMtKSuCXM (2:26-2:44) Seems Young Mob is full of savages cause this dude’s credentials range from an arson charge, two attempted second degree murder charges and according to court affidavits, he was the triggerman in a shooting outside Club Envy around that time.
And full circle it comes. So Moneybagg was well aware that this beef and bad blood was personal and involved his crew. If there still were any doubts, check this out. OG Boo Dirty dropped a diss song “Get Em G” back in the day towards Gotti and in the vid there’s Moneybagg Yo repping OG Boo Dirty https://youtu.be/RKEMpO7lyhA (1:26)
Duke wasn’t letting off the gas, taking shots online and other affiliates joined in targeting Moneybagg Yo and those connected to CMG before releasing a diss track towards Moneybagg https://youtu.be/dYvTb-esMqE
Moneybagg Yo would respond on the track “Thinking Out Loud” off his 2020 album Time Served https://youtu.be/D0qW0B1hu7s
This prompted a another diss response from Duke https://youtu.be/sG3YI71Kj80 keeping the same energy. After that, the story got even wilder. Someone claiming to be Moneybagg’s dad then came out accusing Moneybagg of selling out and switching up after fame and posted receipts of Moneybagg with his past day ones before he blew up
Things seem to be looking crooked for Moneybagg. Like he’s following the paper trail no matter which side he gets it from. With targets placed on his back, Moneybagg might have betrayed the wrong crew. Things dumbed down for a bit, but in September 2020 where he was celebrating his 29th Birthday with his shawty Ari in Las Vegas, shots rang out at his party injuring a female rumored to be Ari’s friend before the shooters escaped https://youtu.be/3X8SyKm1h1M (1:17-1:55) https://youtu.be/3X8SyKm1h1M (3:20-7:00)
Moneybagg would deny he was the target, but would he really admit it and have the law on his back https://youtu.be/X1O-mCv0qVI (0:04-0:20)
In April 2021 Stupid Duke was out of prison and back home https://youtu.be/r_4WgSmpE_0 so who knows where things will turn next. Moneybagg has blown up even further and doing amazing things in the rap game.
Hopefully things don’t escalate past this point and some sort of truce can be made.
