Upcoming South African rapper has quickly become a force to reckoned with in the rap game. Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, better known as Nasty C, was born in Diepkloof, a borough of Soweto, Johannesburg, and developed his love for rap at a very early age. He learned basic production tips and techniques from his older brother Siyabonga. Even though he developed his love for music at such a young age, he didn’t release his debut until 2012. His debut mixtape, One Kid, A Thousand Coffins, at the young age of 15. In regards to his achievements, Nasty earned accolades in 2018 for his trap-influenced effort, Strings and bling. With this project, he brought home two South African Music Awards and a pair of All Africa Music Awards. Along with that, In 2020 he also made a deal with Def Jam and curated the single “There They Go,” marking his debut in the United States.
Nasty’s latest album ‘Zulu Man with some Power’, addresses certain social and political issues within his community. These issues include complications with racial injustices as well as acts of excessive brutality by law enforcement. Within his lyrics, he is not only addressing injustices in the United States, but also the problems back in his hometown in South Africa. One of the most-talked-about songs on said album is ‘They Don’t’ featuring a legend in the rap game, T.I. This song really acts as a call to action. It encourages the people of these crooked governments enforced by the police, to stand up against their authority and fight for their freedom. Even though Nasty C does not verbally or blatantly talk about his hometown in that much depth, his music still advocates for the eradication of his people as well as the advocation of equality for the people of Johannesburg.
