Joel Embiid elbows Giannis Antetokounmpo in the stomach
Joel Embiid established himself as one of the NBA’s best players last season. Of course, Embiid had his moments in the 2019 NBA Playoffs. The dunk and airplane dance he had against the Toronto Raptors, in the 2019 playoffs, come to mind. However, Embiid dealt with a season where the Philadelphia 76ers were met with much turmoil. With Ben Simmons refusing to play, Embiid had to step up. As a result, he became the NBA’s leading scorer, leading Philadelphia to win 50 games, despite turmoil.
Joel Embiid saw Tyrese Maxey step up for the team. In addition, Ben Simmons was traded to the Brooklyn Nets for James Harden. Together, they gave the Sixers a respectable season. Every year, the Sixers have made the playoffs since 2018. Each season has Philadelphia lose in the playoffs’ second round. In 2018, they defeated the Heat, to lose to the Celtics. The following year, the Sixers eliminated the Nets, and then lost to Toronto. During the bubble, they struggled, losing in the first round. The past two years saw losses to the Hawks and Heat.
Joel Embiid enters 2023 with a focus on winning MVP. For five years, the Sixers have been on the cusp. Now, Embiid wants to get there. Quietly, he, Tyrese Maxey, and James Harden have formed a solid core. However, Harden is out with injuries, and Maxey rolled his ankle tonight. In addition, competition is tough in the East. Tonight, Embiid’s Sixers faced Giannis’ Bucks. When Embiid collided with Giannis’ stomach, he was hit with a Flagrant 1 foul. Doris Burke’s reactions to it led to her being accused of wanting Embiid to fail.
