Memphis rappers Yo Gotti and Young Dolph had a bitter rivalry that split the city. Here is a timeline of their nasty feud:
2022
A third suspect was arrested for the shooting of Young Dolph. Hernandez Govan, 43, is the father of the late rapper Lotta Cash Desto. Other suspects Justin Johnson, 24, and Cornelius Smith, 32, were indicted for the shooting last January and have a court date of January 20, 2023.
New Memphis rapper GloRilla signed with Yo Gotti’s CMG Records and was immediately hit with backlash from fans saying that she “switched up” due to resurfaced Twitter posts of her praising Young Dolph. Fans on Twitter also dug up posts from GloRilla’s high school days where she took a picture with Young Dolph.
2021
Young Dolph was shot and killed in his hometown of Memphis on November 17, 2021, shocking the rap community. Suspects were arrested after Memphis police offered a $15,000 award for a manhunt.
2017
Young Dolph was shot in Hollywood, where he suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and was taken to a nearby hospital. Shortly after the shooting, Yo Gotti was named a person of interest by the Los Angeles Police Department.
A Yo Gotti affiliate named Corey McClendon was arrested as the suspected killer but was released without charges after spending two days in jail.
In February 2017, Young Dolph was shot at 100 times in Charlotte, which inspired him to make the song, “100 Shots,” which was a diss to Yo Gotti, and the song “Play With Yo B*tch,” which was also a diss track to the “Rake It Up” rapper.
2016
In a video that was shared in March 2016, Young Dolph exploded on Yo Gotti and called him a “hater” on Twitter. The rant followed after Young Dolph accused Yo gotti of pressing charges against him.
“That big head Down Syndrome looking Motherf*cker hate on anybody from the city,” Young Dolph said. The “Preach” rapper also accused Yo Gotti of being a “fake gangster” and referred to him as “Ho Gotti” during his rant.
That same year, Young Dolph released his debut album, King of Memphis, a name Yo Gotti has also named himself.
The late Memphis rapper Young Dolph was honored in his hometown of Memphis by the city having a “Dolph Day Of Service,” on the anniversary of his death. The day was filled with charitable acts such as free haircuts, coats, and blankets for the winter time for those in need.
